The patent covers the ability to predict health and economic impacts of machine learning-detected pedestrian environmental features along with N-PHAM's walkability, built and natural environmental metrics, and local demographic characteristics. The award was based on a 2018 patent application that included the ability to prescribe place-based optimal design solutions to maximize health and economic benefits. N-PHAM is built on decades of peer-reviewed published scholarly research conducted by UD4H researchers with grants from the U.S. EPA, National Institutes of Health, and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, among others. IPATH Annual Meeting 2023: Abstract Submission & Registration OPEN

The International Conference on Transport and Health is now the IPATH Annual Meeting, and we are happy to announce that it will be returning in 2023 as an online webinar series! The IPATH Annual Meeting 2023 will be a series of three online 1-Day Conferences in June, September, and December 2023. Each conference will include three or four 90-minute sessions and one keynote. All sessions will be recorded. The start time will be 11:00 AM EDT USA to account for other time zones, but an earlier or later time may be scheduled so that participants in similar time zones join the same session. Research or case study/practice abstracts are now invited for the first conference on 29 June 2023. The topic is active travel. Focus group study on estimating traffic danger sought

They are looking for a variety of participants, including traffic safety experts. The objective is to develop a tool to estimate traffic danger for cities so that they might better know where to focus interventions. The focus groups will be held in April through June (2023) and the exact time will be determined in consultation with participants. As we are using a multi-criteria decision aiding process, there will be roughly three discussions for participants. We are looking for: 1. Experts in traffic safety (of diverse disciplines). Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program at UMass

The priority date is today (Feb 15, 2023) but they will continue to accept applications until positions are filled. Thanks, Ipek ****************************** UMass will be hosting a NSF REU Program focused on transportation equity through community-engaged research (see attached). The program will be 9-weeks long this summer, running from June 12th to August 11th, 2023. It includes a weekly stipend and housing. We are trying to recruit a diverse group of 10 undergraduate students (and incoming freshmen) to work on a variety of projects across disciplines including engineering, planning, nursing, and psychology. UD4H led the development of the health assessment component of the project to identify best practices to guide communities in estimating the costs of health conditions. UD4H reviewed current *best practices for incorporating health outcomes into active transportation planning* and standardized these elements. The guide was then applied in 7 disadvantaged communities in Greater Los Angeles. The new LRT *did not lower health care costs as hypothesized* (decline over time, based on demonstrated health benefits of increased transit-related physical activity), at least relative to prior costs and within the first 4.5 years after the LRT opening - ii.) Results were consistent across *outpatient visit costs, medication costs, and when only the 10% most expensive health plan members* were considered - iii.) Health/healthcare + transportation outreach opportunities?

Hello H+T committee, I'm working with the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) on an ITS4US-funded project, [Health Connector](https://www.ridehirta.com/its4us), to improve transportation access to healthcare. Outside of the CTAA conference, the Health Connector project itself doesn't fit perfectly into many other conference and outreach opportunities, but we'd really love to get the word out about it. An important component of our work is making sure that the solution is scalable and transferable to other sites. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for audiences that would be a good fit for projects that aren't fully public health-focused and also not fully non-emergency medical/healthcare focused alongside transportation.
