Introducing AAAM's NEW Scholar's Program
The Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) is proud to announce a new program specifically designed to support one student conducting research within the AAAM domains of interest (https://www.aaam.org/about/).
The recipient will receive $20,000 USD over 12 months.
About the Scholar's Program
The award is designed to augment ongoing research by AAAM members, collaborators, and student trainees, although compelling pilot projects will be considered.
The purpose of the AAAM Scholars Program is three-fold:
* To encourage original research on topics of interest to the AAAM
* To foster the next generation of automotive/transportation safety researchers
* To encourage participation of AAAM members in the active mentorship of young researchers in the field of traffic safety
Eligibility Criteria
The award is open to degree seeking students currently enrolled at accredited institutions granting MS, MPH, PhD, MD or MD/PhD degrees, and conducting research in the areas aligned with the mission of AAAM. Because the award is designed to augment current research being conducted by the student, applicants must be no less than 1 year from degree completion at the time of the due date. Applicants and mentors must be members of AAAM.
However, researchers who are interested in submitting a proposal but are not currently members of AAAM are invited to apply for the award and also include their membership applications as part of the submission. If there are co-mentors, only one mentor must be a member, but the other is highly encouraged to apply for membership (https://www.aaam.org/join-aaam/). Membership fees for the student awardee will be waived for one year following receipt of the AAAM Scholars Award.

FYI
The National Academies report Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity<https://www.nap.edu/catalog/24624/communities-in-action-pathways-to-health-…> concluded that health equity is crucial and health inequity is costly. Communities across the country are deploying action strategies to reduce health inequities. However, it can be challenging to effectively communicate and message the value of health equity and ongoing efforts to diverse stakeholders. Voices for Healthy Kids<https://voicesforhealthykids.org/>, a joint initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Heart Association, developed a messaging guide that provides custom-built messages and insights for policy advocates to further the advancement of health equity. This guide provides an overview of shared values and the need to harness these values in mobilizing decision makers to take action.

For this webinar, experts provided research-based tips and techniques for advancing health equity in public policy. A case study illustrated how value-based messaging has proven effective in creating common ground while unifying communities and decision makers to create needed change.
Objectives
* Highlight successful strategies for messaging and communicating health equity in public policy.
* Provide an example of a successful communications campaign that effectively utilized evidence-based strategies to engage key stakeholders to advance health equity in public policy.
* Identify current research gaps around effective messaging and communication for health equity.

This December, our TRB subcommittee on Health and Transportation is
partnering with several others to bring to you a two-day Conference on
Health and Active Transportation (CHAT), Joining Forces and Moving
Forward. As the title implies, the conference will be forward looking
while building from our current relationships, research and practices.
To help fuel the conference outcomes and chart a course for the future,
we are looking for posters around a long list of themes. They are listed
in the Call for Abstracts, which is attached along with the information
on how to submit. On behalf of the CHAT planning committee we look
forward to your contribution to what we hope will be a landmark event.
