The Urban Land Institute and Smart Growth America recently released a
report examining unhealthy corridors, their prevalence and location, the
conditions they share, and the impact they have on people’s lives. The
report also explores the land use and transportation decisions that give
rise to and perpetuate unhealthy corridors as well as opportunities to
use policy and practice levers to shape them into something better.

The appendix for the report puts forth the methodology used to identify
an unhealthy corridor, the sample of identified urban and suburban
commercial arterials, compiled data to measure unhealthy corridor
conditions and an explanation of each step in the process to quantify
and rank the corridors. The appendix is a separate document.
