Greetings TRB Health and Transportation Subcommittee,
Many friends of the subcommittee are interested in issues around access to goods and services that support health, especially for vulnerable populations.
The new ChoiceMaps tool from Walk Score may be of interest to those friends; just a few US cities are included in this iteration of the tool: http://blog.walkscore.com/2013/04/choicemaps-new-way-to-measure-neighborhoo…
>From the website: The tool uses Walk Score data to show the number of neighborhood amenities within 5-, 10-, or 20-minute walks of a location. In addition to restaurants, groceries, and coffee shops, it also lets you see the number of schools, transit stops, bike-share stations, and car-share locations within walking distance.

Applying a Health Lens to Decision Making in Non-Health Sectors: Workshop
Summary
http://www.trb.org/main/blurbs/170527.aspx
The Roundtable on Population Health Improvement, part of the Institute of
Medicines Board on Population has released a workshop summary on a
meeting that was convened in September 2013 to foster cross-sectoral
dialogue and consider the opportunities for and barriers to improving the
conditions for health in the course of achieving other societal objectives
(e.g., economic development, efficient public transit).
Health is influenced by a wide range of factors, many of which fall
outside of the health care delivery sector. These determinants of health
include, for example, the characteristics of how people live, work, learn,
and play. Decision and policy making in areas such as transportation,
housing, and education at different levels of government, and in the
private sector, can have far-reaching impacts on health. Throughout the
United States there has been increasing dialogue on incorporating a health
perspective into policies, programs, and projects outside the health
field.
