***************************************************************************
TRB is arranging its annual Ambassador Program at the Hilton Hotel for the 2011 Annual Meeting. The program is designed to assist first-time attendees (and/or others) who feel overwhelmed and uncertain how to most effectively participate in the meeting. The program details are explained below.
We are seeking about 60 volunteers to serve as Ambassadors. Each person will staff the Ambassador table for two hours and wear an "Ask Me! I'm a TRB Ambassador" button. We ask that during the remainder of the meeting you continue to wear the button to identify yourself as an additional resource for first-time attendees or others seeking information about TRB or the meeting.
TRB staff will provide each Ambassador with a button and a limited amount of background material. There will also be information at the Ambassador table to help respond to questions. The table will be located close to TRB Registration area at the Hilton Hotel. Please try to identify two hours of your time that you could volunteer - This program has become an important part of the Annual Meeting and we need your help to assure it is a success again this year! Those who have served as Ambassadors in the past have found this a fun and rewarding way to participate in the Annual Meeting and to help the new attendees.
People willing to participate for a two hour slot during one of the following sessions should e-mail their availability to Bonnie Duke at B-Duke(a)tamu.edu<mailto:B-Duke@tamu.edu> by Tuesday, January 18. Bonnie will follow up with a schedule confirmation and information about where to pick up "Ambassador" materials.

ABJ30 Members and Friends -
A message from a fellow ABJ30 Committee Member, Steve Taylor, - he has been very busy organizing an exciting Workshop for you on Sunday ---
As you begin to make your travel plans to attend the TRB Annual meeting Jan 23-27, 2011, be sure to consider the following Sunday morning workshop that is very timely and can sure open some doors for the use of Private Commercial data that may be a very cost effective solution to many of the operations and planning needs.
Workshop Session #133 - Sunday Jan 23, 2011 - 9:00am - 12:00pm - Hilton Columbia Hall 8
TPW11-006
Sunday, January 23, 2011, 9:00am-12:00pm, Hilton, Columbia Hall 8
Use of Private Sector and Blended Private-Public Sector Speed Data by Public Agencies for Planning and Operations
Steve Taylor, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., Dallas, Texas, presiding
Sponsored by Committee on Highway Traffic Monitoring (ABJ35); Committee on Statewide Transportation Data and Information Systems (ABJ20); Committee on Urban Transportation Data and Information Systems (ABJ30); Committee on Geographic Information Science and Applications (ABJ60); Committee on Regional Transportation Systems Management and Operations (AHB10); Committee on Intelligent Transportation Systems (AHB15)
This workshop will address the use of private sector speed data by public agencies. Sometimes this speed data is wholly generated by the private sector; in other cases, the private sector data is blended with public sector data. Often, this private sector speed data is collected and disseminated as real-time traveler information; however, when archived unrestrictedly, this speed data has potential to be used for numerous operational and planning applications.

Greg Krueger, Michigan DOT
For those attending, we hope to answer common questions you may have for the vendors including:
1. What types of data do you provide (speed, travel time, meta data, etc)
2. Please describe your overall data collection process (sources, aggregation, fusion, dissemination, etc)
3. Do you have procedures to compensate for drops in reliability or accuracy?
4. What are your prices based on (days, coverage, aggregation, miles, etc)?
Other questions you may have of your public agency peers may include the following that will sure be discussed:
1. What type of data and performance measures were found to be most applicable and cost effective for your use?
2. What was found to be the most attractive elements of that data in deciding to acquire?
3. What have you done or plan to do to validate data accuracy?
4. How are you using the data for either operations or planning?
5. Do you plan to acquire data on a regular basis and if so what interval?

Re: INVITATION to a Webcast on the Use of Archive Data for Planning
and Operations Performance Measures sponsored by the I-95 Corridor Coalition
Learn how outsourced probe data is being used for performance measures and planning at various levels - national, regional, and specific MPOs.
The Travel Information Services Program Track (TISPTC) is inviting you to participate in a webcast titled "The Use of Archive Data for Planning and Operations Performance Measures" on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM (EST).
Shawn Turner (Texas Transportation Institute) - Use of Private Sector Speed Data for Historical Performance Monitoring: Lessons Learned from National and State-Level Analyses. His presentation will include lessons learned through TTI's three most recent projects/applications: 2010 Urban Mobility Report (to be released in early December 2010); Texas DOT's 100 Most Congested Roadway Segments; and, Minnesota DOT's Pilot Project for Statewide Reporting. Shawn will also discuss key insights that will help public agency staff more easily procure and use private sector speed data in their agency's planning and performance monitoring processes.
Michael Pack (University of Maryland CATT Lab) - I-95 Corridor Coalition Vehicle Probe Project (VPP) Dashboard & Data Download Tool. Michael will explain this tool that was developed for North Carolina's VPP Performance Measures project and incorporates incident data through RITIS (Regional Integrated Transportation Information System) with real-time and archived data and provides access to raw data for report development beyond scope of this application. Michael will also review the data that is being collected and the performance measures that can be calculated.
Andrew Meese (Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments) - Use of the Vehicle Probe Project data for Congestion Management Process Support. More specifically, Andrew will review MWCOG's efforts regarding their use of the VPP data in the Congestion Management Process (CMP), speed validation in travel forecasting models, and speed distribution for air quality modeling.
Andrew will also discuss the advantages and caveats and the potential future uses of the Vehicle Probe Project data by his agency.
If you plan to participate in this webcast, please RSVP to nhrebien(a)kmjinc.com (or Natalia Hrebien at 610.228.0207) by Monday, November 29, 2010 and she will register you for the webcast and forward to you the conference call information and webcast link.
Should you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Bill Stoeckert at 774.207.0367 or Karen Jehanian at 610.228.0211.
We look forward to your participation!
