Hello Everybody, I've been following the steps to import the SF1 data into the Access table shell. Everything was working smoothly until I got to the 8th table to import, and then I got the following message: 'Cannot open database " . It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.' (See screenshot below.) I tried importing the next table, and got the same result. Has anyone run into this problem? I'm at a loss because, as I said, everything was working fine previously. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks! Can data from third party distributors be trusted? I would like to break free of AFF2, in fact I have to since half the time the data won't download or the table is mysteriously unavailable. But I am concerned about relying on data that has been removed from the original source. If there were an error in a table the the Census corrected the data, would the correction carry over to these sites? I just took a look at the ire site. It does not appear to allow selection of a subset beneath the state level -- e.g., in my case, all the tracts in the City of Detroit. BEA data vs AFF2 and its well-known faults

I know it's a lost cause to expect the Census Bureau to see reason and dump AFF2, which sometime this fall will become their only portal for census and ACS data. But anyone who believes a data searching and downloading product has to require tutorials and special training, or has to be clunky, needlessly complex, visually confusing, and counter-intuitive should visit the BEA's new web site, and try downloading economic data for his/her local area. The steps are quick, the icons are clear and intuitive, and you can get to some pretty complex stuff in a series of steps that leaves you feeling smart. By comparison, speaking only for myself, I always come away from AFF2 either feeling dumb, or like a shoplifter who actually got away with something useful, despite the risks I had to take and the danger of complete failure. I couldn't agree more. Sometime I wonder what kind of thinking goes behind designing AFF2. Just because it's not commercial, does not needlessly have to be complex. Hints on using AFF2 for 2010 Census Summary File 1

Hi Everyone - Hope you are having a wonderful summer! Here is a small "helpful hints" document on using American FactFinder 2 with 2010 Census Summary File 1. Hope these 2 handouts are useful to you. Thank you to everyone who helped create and improve them: Linda Clark at the Seattle Regional Office of the Census Bureau, Ed Christopher from FHWA Resource Center, and Liang Long from Cambridge Systematics. You don't have to use Census Bureau's American FactFinder 2. There are other ways to get the Summary File 1 data. The August issue of the CTPP Status Report includes a link to instructions of using the Microsoft Access Table Shell, and the Missouri Census Data Center. Census population density calculations

Hello all, I am finding discrepancies between population densities that I'm calculating in ArcGIS using Census 2010 population data and the TIGER geography shapefiles (in my case for the county and state level), and population density numbers posted on Census websites. The discrepancy is from the square mileage calculation, in particular. Does anyone know if this is because water bodies are subtracted from the total square mileage for the density calculation (or if there is another reason for the discrepancy)? Data on Disabled Populations

Hi all, I have not been able to find any data on disabled populations in either SF1 2010 or ACS 2009 5-year data, specifically at the block group and tract levels. Does anyone know if disabled data indeed has not been released within these geographies/datasets? If it has not, does anyone know a good alternative for disabled data?
