It would be nice see a good showing from our CTPP data community at this
conference. I know besides CTPP provided data our community uses ACS as
a integral part of there work. For more information on the conference

Hi All,
Thank you for your ongoing interest in the US Census' Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP). Here is a link to our webinar held on October 24th:
https://ctpp.transportation.org/policy-change-on-small-geography/psap-updat…
CTPP PSAP Update on Small Geography Delineation Criteria and PSAP Participation
Description
This webinar is to discuss the 2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) block group and tract delineation criteria. CTPP data releases after the 2020 Decennial Census will no longer report by TAZ, but by block groups instead. We will give an update on the process we initiated to adapt to this change, including a discussion on how the new PSAP criteria will better enable us to align block group and TAZ boundaries to sustain the value of CTPP data for modeling and transportation planning and analysis.
Learn about PSAP, how you can get involved, and who's participating in your region. This webinar will allow significant time for Q&A, so come prepared with your questions--we expect many will be curious about the same things.
Program:
1. Welcome and Overview - Ben Gruswitz of CTPP Program Oversight Board and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC)
2. PSAP Overview, Criteria, and Contact List - Josh Coutts of the US Census Bureau's Geography Division
3. Why participation is important - Arash Mirzaei & Kathleen Yu of North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG)
4. Q&A
For general information on PSAP and the CTPP's policy change on small (TAZ) geography, please visit:

Hi Census power users-
This is one of those things that deserves repeating...
Census Bureau is asking for descriptions of how you use - and why you need - specific tabulations of the 2020 Census<https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2018-15458/p-19>. This input will shape the SF1 and SF2 products that will be available 2+ years from now. They have recently re-opened the comments period. The latest Fed Register Notice<https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2018-21837> extends the comments deadline to November 8.
Comments have already been submitted by State Data Center agencies from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Mass., Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. You can see everyone's comments here<https://www.regulations.gov/docketBrowser?rpp=50&so=DESC&sb=postedDate&po=0…>. It's public info!
Why your comments matter: Differential privacy protection.
The Census Bureau will modify some Decennial SF1 and SF2 tabulations that were previously available - and they could reduce the details available for census blocks (the most detailed, localized geographic level).
Unpacking what I've heard about this, I believe the Census Bureau is considering a range of possibilities. They are really asking:
* What tables or variables are mandatory and must be precise to the nearest 1 person?
* What tables or variables can allow for "perturbing" or "noise infusing" of data cells - typically through block-to-block swapping of individual microdata records - in order to protect privacy?
* And what tables that were previously published for census blocks can be "clawed back" - and be tabulated only for larger geographic units.
Some background information on differential privacy protection can be found in recent presentations by Census Bureau<https://www2.census.gov/cac/sac/meetings/2018-09/abowd-disclosure-avoidance…>.
Give it some thought - and get those comments in.
Cheers,
Todd Graham

Hello all,
The CTPP oversight Board is seeking some new MPO members from 100 - 400k MPOs and 1 to 2.5M MPOs. If you are interested in participating in directing the work of the CTPP program and joining a very hard working board, overseeing research, training and outreach, and the technical direction of this program, please send a letter of interest and qualifications to Penelope Weinberger at pweinberger(a)aashto.org<mailto:pweinberger@aashto.org>. We are looking for folks who have been involved in the CTPP program at their own MPO and who have a good sense of and a love for Census Data
