ABJ30 Committee Members and Friends,
I received the message below regarding information for an on-line
journal - now accepted for coverage in the SSCI and JCR - hope this is
helpful:
It is our great pleasure to let you know
that the European Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research has
been accepted for coverage in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)
and the Journal Citation Reports
(JCR) of ThomsonReuters' Web of Science.
This makes EJTIR, to the best of our
knowledge, the first open-access journal in transportation to receive an
impact factor. As such, we expect that the inclusion in SSCI will
further improve our relevance and visibility within the transportation
research community.
Please feel free to forward this message
to colleagues, and to visit our website ( www.ejtir.tbm.tudelft.nl ) for
a look at issue 9.4.
Sincerely,
Bert van Wee and Caspar Chorus
Editors-in-Chief
Hope to see everyone in January!!!!
Kate
ABJ30 Committee Members and Friends -
Emily and I received invitations to participate in this survey and
thought you might want to also help (sorry for the short time frame) -
ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE (if you haven't
already had the chance) -
We would like your help in sharing information with transportation
planners about a Virtual Conference on Transportation Planning Research
Needs. This is an NCHRP project (NCHRP Project 8-36, Task 95),
conducted for the AASHTO Standing Committee on Planning. The Virtual
Conference will be held on-line with a series of webinars starting in
late February or early March 2010. We are trying to get a broad input on
the challenges and needs facing transportation planners across the
country, including those at State DOTs, MPOs, transit agencies, and
other transportation agencies.
We have an online survey that we would like practitioners to complete to
provide us with an early indication of the topics and issues that they
face; the survey results will help us shape the development of the
virtual conference, and influence the preparation of background
materials. Here is the link to the survey:
www.TransportationPlanningNeeds.com
We would like to have the survey completed by December 4th so there is
limited time! You may have already received information on this through
TRB, but I am sending this message to encourage you to pass the survey
onto your committee members. Please see text below that you can cut and
paste into an e-mail to distribute to your committee.
Also, as part of this effort, ICF International has been conducting a
scan of the Research Needs Database, as well as other documents that
have identified research priorities. If your committee has recently
developed its own identification of research priorities related to
transportation planning, please share that with us as well, so that we
can include this as part of our background review of research needs.
Please e-mail me at mgrant(a)icfi.com and Terence Plaskon or Kathleen
Rooney (cc:ed on this e-mail). Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!

ABJ30 Members and Friends,
Emily has prepared the attached draft minutes of the "Summer in Seattle"
ABJ30 2009 Mid-Year Meeting. Please review and provide her (
Emily.Parkany(a)noblis.org) with comments, edits, corrections, etc. so we
can post the final version on our new website (www.trburbandata.org).
Also - TRB has just rolled out the "upgraded" website (see www.trb.org
<http://www.trb.org/> ) - please let Matthew Miller (MAMiller(a)nas.edu)
know if you find a broken link (especially if it a link you use on a
regular basis) - and hopefully we can get new directions to your
favorite spots on the website.

The NHTS is a fundamental intermodal program that provides statistical
measures of travel demand and travel behavior of the American public.
Conducted since 1969, this national program provides detailed data on
the characteristics of travelers, trips, and vehicles. Information
provided by the NHTS helps to answer both very basic and highly complex
questions about system use, access, mobility, performance, and safety.
The data collection effort for the 2008 NHTS was completed in May 2009
with participation from over 155,000 households. Results, including
detailed characteristics for persons in U.S. households and their
vehicles, will be reported in late fall 2009.
Participants will be able to ask questions following the presentation.
There is no cost to participate, please register early to reserve your
spot.

ABJ30 Members and Friends,
I am pleased to announce that Ben Stabler, Senior Modeler for Parsons
Brinckerhoff (PB), is now a Member of our Committee. He is planning to
attend our "Summer in Seattle" Mid-Year Meeting and I am hoping many of
you will be there too! Attached is the Summer 2009 Data Section News -
lots of exciting activities --
And of course, if is never too soon to start planning for the 2010
Annual Meeting. I received the following notice regarding the
consequences of the Hilton remodeling plans - TRB staff are telling us
they will need to:
* Reduce each committee's allotment from 2.3 sessions down to 2.0
sessions
* Increase the number of papers presented in poster sessions
* Move the Human Factors workshops to Saturday
* Shift events/meetings of some Hilton committees to the Marriott
or Omni Shoreham Hotels (affected committees will be informed shortly)
* Maximize usage of evenings (especially Sunday and Wednesday)
and Thursday morning
* Limit most committee meetings to one 105 minute time slot. For
those committees needing additional meeting time, TRB staff will work
with the committee chairs to explore available options. These may
include scheduling all or part of the committee meeting on evenings and
Thursday, and/or scheduling follow-up conference calls or web-based
meetings.
More on this soon - in the meantime, I want to encourage everyone to
make the August 1st deadline for submitting papers (please check the TRB
website http://www.trb.org/news/blurb_detail.asp?id=10482) - we will
also be looking for qualified reviewers from our Committee Members and
Friends -
Have a wonderful 4th!!!!
Regards,
Kate

ABJ30 Committee Members and Friends,
I am attaching Nathan et al's Research Statement - from Kara Kockelman's
message to the Travel Survey Committee this morning - "It emphasizes
data sharing & archiving (across agencies) and is titled "Integrating
Existing and Emerging Transportation Data Collection Activities to
Maximize Analytical Capacity". It will be in NCHRP's formal pipeline
within a few months. Feel free to start advocating this topic to your
AASHTO reps now. Thank you!" - We want to help with the advocating from
ABJ30 as well - Hope to see many of you at our Summer Meeting in
Seattle!!!!

Kate
