ABJ30 Members and Friends,
Below is our draft agenda - we will plan to keep to it as much as
possible - noting some of our guests/speakers have indicated possible
conflicts -
For planning purposes - check our TRB website details on ABJ30 and
Events Schedule for Annual Meeting
http://www.trb.org/directory/comm_detail.asp?id=1141http://www.trb.org/am/ip/assembly_search.asp?c=ABJ30&comm=Urban+Transpor
tation+Data+and+Information+Systems
For those of you not able to join us in Washington, D.C., (and those who
will and want to get a head start on our discussions), I will be
forwarding some additional listserv messages for
confirmation/discussion/edits, etc.).
IMPORTANT ISSUES - please let me know your response to the two issues
below (either using this listserv, by emailing directly -
lawsonc(a)albany.edu or contributing to our discussion at TRB Meeting) -
thanks!
First, we need input on the best option for a sustainable internet
strategy -- as we thank Chuck Purvis, previous Committee Chair, for his
generous contribution of hosting our Committee's website. Over the last
12 months, we have not been able to schedule a new host - and given the
problems with keeping a website current - please consider the following
options: should we use a "wiki" service (Shawn is trying this strategy
with the ADUS Subcommittee)? - should we use a "free" site (e.g.,
Google)? - should I "lobby" TRB staff for a user-friendly single page
TRB-hosted website that would provide a generalized format with
information on how to participate in a dedicated wiki? -- other ideas or
offers of host capability??
Second, I am hearing some concerns about travel funds for our summer
meeting - should I ask TRB staff about holding a webinar as part of our
Summer Events? This would allow more of our Members, Friends, and with
sufficient advanced notification - our target population -
transportation planners, MPOs, consultants, university faculty, and
interested citizens, to participate - let me know and I will try to get
confirmation that we could use webinar technologies.

Members and Friends of AJB30,
As we get ready to head for Washington, D.C. in a few weeks for the
Annual Meeting - please let me know your thoughts about having our
Mid-Year Meeting in Seattle from July 19th through the 21st. Tom
Palmerlee is in final negotiations for the summer venues and this ones
sounds really good to me (and yes, it is near blizzard conditions here
in Albany, New York) - According to Tom's recent email, the summer
meeting will stress time for flexible committee meetings with less
emphasis on sessions. I think our Committee should take this
opportunity to really get to know the urban data issues facing other
Committees - and be ready to help with the data challenges ahead!!
(this should help us make the case for why data programs need $$$
--after all - data is a critical component of any infrastructure
spending!!!) - Thanks in advance for any input for our summer meeting -
and have a wonderful Holiday!
Regards,
Kate

Great idea. By then our foot of snow ought to be gone. Meanwhile, I will
continue to miss DC in January (replaced by Palm Springs). Ken

ABJ30 Members and Friends,
I just received a request from Tom Palmerlee (see below) to forward him
our agenda for the Annual TRB Meeting - (subcommittees - this also
applies to you) - since we won't have our regular opportunity to develop
the agenda at our Mid-Year in time for this request - can I get some
volunteers to help with the preparation? I will plan to include the
review of our Strategic Plan and special attention to the topics that we
currently cover - any suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated as
this description of our plans should help bring newcomers to our meeting
- thanks!
>From Tom Palmerlee:
"I would like to post short agendas for the TRB committee and
subcommittee meetings a week before the Advance Registration deadline so
we can make attendees aware of these open meeting. So please send me a
short version oriented to those who don't necessarily attend TRB
committee meeting. Emphasize the programmatic issues to be discussed,
not administrative items. If I get it by next Monday, we can post them
and get an email out about week before the deadline.
I will also put those agendas in the final program."
Regards,
Kate

ABJ30 Members and Friends,
I just received another email - this one from David Floyd, referencing
the deadline for registration for NATMEC - I have put in a call to Tom
to clarify that what he needs RIGHT NOW is our agenda for NATMEC (but it
doesn't hurt to get busy with our Annual TRB Meeting agenda as well - so
any ideas for that meeting - please send them along) - meanwhile, we'll
focus on the NATMEC agenda - sorry for the confusion - (my fault for
jumping ahead to January!!) - thanks!
Regards,
Kate
