Mike--Thanks for clarifying this for us. Any way of knowing when in
March this may hit? Before or after St. Pats day?

Ben,
There's only one set of maps-- the reference maps that will be released in October.
The purpose of those maps is to show the boundaries for each urban area, features, and
other census geographic areas in and around the urban area.
The March release will be the TIGER/Line shapefile layer containing boundaries for each
urban area. People can use those shapefiles to make maps for each urban area, or to map
in a GIS. We also will release the list of urbanized areas and urban clusters, along with
the total population of each urban area. We also will provide other information about
each urban area, such as land area and population density. The March release will provide
the information needed to know which areas are new urbanized areas, which areas have
exceeded various population thresholds, and other changes in the urban and rural
population and land area between 2000 and 2010.
SF1 data for urban areas are scheduled for release in October.
Mike

Mike,
Is the difference between the two sets of maps, for the first ones, none of the urban
areas have had population range. Defined by census, which are done for us in the second
set?

I should clarify my previous response.
The list of urban areas and their 2010 populations will be released in March, along with
urban area TIGER/Line shapefiles, which will provide GIS users with the ability to map
boundaries of urban areas.
Urbanized area/urban cluster reference maps will be released in October 2012.

According to the Census2010 release schedule at
http://www.census.gov/population/www/cen2010/glance/index.html, the Urban/Rural Update to
Summary File 1 will be released in October 2012. The Geography Update also gives this
date for the UA/Urban Cluster Reference Maps.
