I’m not aware of any use being made (at least in Ohio) of the tables that
were discontinued before the 2012-16 CTPP. For travel modeling, as Ohio
has a wide variety of urban area sizes, the CTPP data used varies between
the smaller and larger regions. Beyond PUMS and heavy reliance on the
1-dimensional SF1 and SF3 tables, the CTPP use is focused where we want to
have 2 or 3-dimensional tables at the zone or small district level of
geography, the larger urban areas make use of the journey-to-work info and
income level by mode of travel and number of workers (tables B103203,
B112202 & A302103). As transit usage is not significant in the small
regions that I work with, the CTPP table use there is focused on what can
be joined down to zone level to the NCHRP 716 “transferable parameters”
trip generation tables (e.g. household size X number of workers – table
A112211) and what can improve accuracy for peak hour/dynamic assignment
modeling (such as the time of arrival pattern by zone at place of work -
table A202112). Finally, as we rely on QCEW and private vendors for
employment data, we don’t generally use Part 2 tables much, but due to the
QCEW/BLS focus on wage and salary workers, we do intend to also make use of
the new tables in Part 2 highlighting class of worker, but exactly how
still TBD.
Going forward, it’s not the lack of tables that we worry about as much as
the level of accuracy and usability of the information – due to both the
increasing unwillingness of the populace to provide complete and accurate
answers to the Census combined with increasingly stringent levels of
disclosure/confidentiality review.

Hello and happy new year CTPP!
It’s the email you’ve all been waiting for! The CTPP 2012 to 2016 dataset
was released in 2019 and you all have been working with it since. We are
specifying the next special tabulation of census data. It will be based on
the 2017 to 2021 ACS and now is your chance to tell us what you need. As
you know, the 2012 to 2016 data was very pared down from the previous tab,
we now have the opportunity to review if we lost critical tables and want
to add them back, or if your analytical needs have changed to the point
where you need new cross tabs to complete your varied mandates.
If you would like to suggest a table be added back or created anew, please
