Regional and Statewide Census Geodatabases

We are looking for a pre-configured 2010 Census Geodatabase with both linework and data attached for at least the state of Indiana, if not also including the surrounding states. Although all of the data can be downloaded from the Census Bureau on an as needed basis, we would like a more permanent copy in-house for our GIS needs and publication to our regional GIS website. We are hoping to find something pre-built, rather then downloading and compiling everything ourselves. Any assistance in the endeavor is appreciated. John-Paul Hopman Michiana Area Council of Gov'ts

Just downloaded this yesterday. This is a very useful dataset for us as travel surveys are quite expensive. So is there a newer version of this? Characteristics for UA

The Census Bureau will be releasing the update to the 2010 Census Summary File 1 that will include characteristics for urbanized areas on Thursday. Here's the announcement from the recent Tip Sheet: Summary File 1 Urban/Rural Update File - Adds urban and rural population and housing unit counts to the 2010 Census Summary File 1 released in 2011. The update provides detailed tables on age, sex, households, families, relationship to householder, housing units, detailed race and Hispanic origin groups and group quarters population for each of the nation's urbanized areas and urban clusters, and for the urban and rural portions of the United States, states, counties and places. (Scheduled for release Sept. 27.) Also for an update on the social and economic characteristics, in a conversation with ACS staff, I was told that the ACS data files will not include the new UA until the release of the 2012 ACS in Oct-Dec of 2013. We are not getting them in the 2011 ACS because ACS staff did not get the geographic boundary information in time. CTPP Profiles Using ACS 2006-2010 and Census 2010 Published at AASHTO website!

Hi, all FHWA and AASHTO have created CTPP profile sheets using ACS 2006-2010 and Census 2010 data. These profiles are released at AASHTO website: http://download.ctpp.transportation.org/profiles_2012/transport_profiles.ht… . The profiles are designed to give transportation planners a handy way to examine trends by including two time points. The profiles are available for the U.S. total; all states; all counties; and places with population 5,000 or more, based on 2010 Census counts. The transportation profile has the following tables: Table 1 Selected Characteristics; Total Persons, Persons in Households, Total Households, Average Household Size, Average Household Income, Average Number of Vehicles per Households, Percent of Persons in Poverty, Percent Minority, Percent of Persons 65 and Over, Percent of Persons Foreign Born. Table 2 Mode to Work; Total Workers at Place of Residence, Mode to Work at Place of Residence and at Place of Work and Table 3 Mean Travel Time by Mode to Work. The 2011 ACS (1-year) file will be released next week. Below is some information on the table changes. For the transportation folks, one new table is Worker Population For Workplace Geography. Also, those of us who have had trouble calculating an unemployment rate from the very detailed table, B23001, will be very excited to see a new table, B23025. This table contains only the basic information needed to calculate the unemployment rate, without any gender or age detail to wade through. Remember this file will have data for geographies (state, county, place, MCD) of 65,000+ population.
