Dear Transportation Colleague: The Census 2000 County-To-County Worker Flow Files have just been released. These data contain the number of workers 16 years old and over who commute to work. The counts give the number of workers traveling within or between counties in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, plus travel to workplaces outside the U.S., such as Puerto Rico or a foreign country. If you or others simply want to inspect and/or query the data, you can use a web mapping application at (http://www.caliper.com/countytocounty). This application of TransCAD for the Web creates desire lines and produces tables for any selected county. This one is pretty easy to use. Dear Transportation Colleague: The Census 2000 County-To-County Worker Flow Files have just been released. These data contain the number of workers 16 years old and over who commute to work. The counts give the number of workers traveling within or between counties in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, plus travel to workplaces outside the U.S., such as Puerto Rico or a foreign country. If you or others simply want to inspect and/or query the data, you can use a web mapping application at (http://www.caliper.com/countytocounty). Ted Mellnik of The Charlotte Observer informed the Census Bureau that Knight Ridder had an ArcIMS application using the County-to-County data released on March 6, 2003. You can see an inbound commuter map or an outbound commuter map for almost every county in the US. The map can open centered on a county named by the ?fipco= part of the URL. This one opens on Cook Co. IL. http://161.188.204.80/maps/charlotte/jtw51.asp?fipco=17031 If you don't know the FIPS code of the counties in which you are interested, you can use the "Zoom Out" function to see more of the U.S., and then select a different county.
