Thanks for the kind words, Ed (and the vote of confidence). I've got some
big shoes to fill on the committee after all of the good work you, Kate,
and Stacey have done! I'm lucky to inherit a committee that is in such
great shape.

Mike is an excellent choice. His roots in the Urban
Data committee and
expertise with TRB processes and rules go very deep. When I was chair,
before Stacey and Kate, Mike helped us, and TRB out by taking on the review
coordination of a whole genre of papers that were new to the committee and
TRB. This was in the early days of ITS when travel time monitoring systems
were being developed and the data processing algorithms were being tweaked.
There was as sizeable pile of papers that fell between a handful of
committees that were not willing to take the papers on. Mike, through the
Urban Data committee took the lead, recruited top notch reviewers and the
rest is history (at least that is how I remember it). Congratulations Mike
and thanks for pulling us through those early days.

Dear Members and Friends of ABJ30:
2020 is a year of change for the ABJ30 committee. Not only will we have a
new committee code with the TRB re-organization (see
http://www.trb.org/AboutTRB/TADStrategicAlignment.aspx) and new faces
with the upcoming rotation, more importantly, we will have a new chair.
I’m very pleased to announce that Mike Fontaine has been confirmed as the
incoming chair for our committee. He officially begins in this role as of
April 1, 2020 but has been part of the committee leadership team for the
past 6 years as both subcommittee chair and more recently Vice Chair. I’m
looking forward to the continued growth of the committee under his
leadership!
The main committee meeting is scheduled for TRB Tuesday, from 8 am to noon
in Liberty Salon L (M4), Marriott Marquis. This is an in-person meeting
only. A draft agenda is attached and we hope you’ll be able to join us.
The 2nd page of the agenda includes a list of ABJ30 sponsored activities,
so please review that as you’re planning your conference schedule.
Wishing you each the best in the new year and looking forward to seeing
you next week-
Stacey
