11th annual Transportation and Communities Summit 2019 at Portland State University
connects national, mobility-focused research to equitable practice and policy through
breakout panels, Lightning Talks, student posters, deep-dive workshops, and networking.
This year we’ll explore:
* The intersection between transportation, housing and land use with a focus on
mitigating displacement, understanding transportation's impacts on the housing
economy, and reforming policy in response to social justice.
* Where is mobility in active transportation taking us? We'll touch on safety
design guidance at the intersection, the electrification of travel options like e-scooters
and electric buses, and policies to support active mobility for all ages and abilities.
* Tackling multimodal data: collecting, processing, analyzing, and using it to
create equitable transportation solutions.

keynote Ben Wellington—a data scientist and policy analyst from New York City whose work
has influenced local government policy, street infrastructure, and the design of NYC

Transportation Research and Education Center at Portland State University is home to the
National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC), the Initiative for Bicycle
and Pedestrian Innovation (IBPI), and other transportation programs. TREC produces
research and tools for transportation decision makers, develops K-12 curriculum to expand
the diversity and capacity of the workforce, and engages students and professionals
through education.

National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC) is one of seven U.S.
Department of Transportation national university transportation centers. A program of
