Submit webinar proposals by July 15, 2020.
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScIggFi-WXgNxlu0ajZYWPNVt9cUw2CQZq…>
Do you have an interesting idea for a webinar? Webinar proposals are open
to anyone, but are due by midnight (Eastern time) on *Wednesday, July 15,
2020. *Please submit any webinars
<https://webinar.mytrb.org/Webinars/SuggestAWebinar> sponsored by TRB
Standing Committees by this date. The deadline applies to webinars that TRB
will host between September-December 2020.
Proposals received after July 15, 2020 may be considered for webinars
between January-March 2021. Webinars that were previously submitted and
declined may be submitted again with TRB’s suggested changes.
While webinar suggestions do need approval from Standing Committee chairs
or co-chairs, anyone may submit webinar proposals, so please spread the
word.
TRB will review forms and respond to proposers in August 2020 regarding
scheduling the webinar, or will provide reasons why the proposal was not
selected. Next, TRB will contact the listed panelists, coordinate
schedules, and select dates for practice and live webinars. TRB will do its
best to honor requested timeframes. *We ask that webinar proposers do not
schedule any specific date with their panelists before hearing from TRB
staff.*
*Tips for successful webinar suggestions from Standing Committees:*
Proposals that meet the following criteria have been selected and well
received by webinar attendees:
1. *Focus on practical messages.* On average, 60 percent of attendees are
employed at state departments of transportation. Therefore, webinar
proposals should target methods, techniques, and practices for on-the-job
applications.
2. *Complete the full webinar form without placeholders*. Do not use “to
be determined” or placeholders for any information in the form. TRB will
consider only *completed* webinar suggestion forms. Plan to spend at least
45 minutes on the proposal form.
3. *Receive approval of the proposal by Committee Chair. *If the webinar
proposal is organized by a TRB Standing Committee, then the chair must
approve the proposal.
4. *Avoid proprietary information. *Most TRB webinars provide credits for
continuing education. If a proposal appears to be commercial in nature, it
will not be eligible for education credits, and thus TRB is unlikely to
accept it.
5. *Convert a successful live presentation into a webinar format. *Some
successful webinars have repackaged presentations from meetings,
conferences, or sessions. However, if you choose to repackage a previous
conference session as a webinar, it’s best to highlight one successful
session from a conference rather than providing a broad overview of the
entire conference. Attendees value specific, actionable information.
A committee or individual's past track record of organizing well-received
webinars will also be considered. Committees who have not proposed
webinars, particularly in the freight, rail, aviation, transit, marine, or
pedestrian/bicycle topic areas, as well as those that focus on underserved
populations, including those in rural and tribal areas, are encouraged to
apply.
To suggest more than one webinar, the Bulk Webinar Suggestion form may be
submitted. Contact Elaine Ferrell at EFerrell(a)nas.edu to receive the Bulk
Webinar Suggestion form.
Current TRB Standing Committee Chairs and all employees of state DOTs can
register for webinars at no cost.
For questions, please contact Elaine Ferrell.
Good morning and apologies for cross-postings:
Please see below for a request from TRB.
I hope this finds each of you and your families safe and healthy-

Dear Stacey,
I am writing to you today as Chair of ABJ30 with a request that you forward
this email to all members and friends of your committee, and that you
encourage them to participate in the activity described below.
TRB would like to get as many responses as possible to the following three
questions, which are part of TRB's April, May, and June "Tell Us 'Our'
Story" Centennial Challenge.
* What drew you to transportation community, and what keeps you here?
ew-you-to-the-transportation-community-and-what-keeps-you-here>
* What impact do you hope to have on the world and how is the
Transportation Research Board helping you make that impact?

your-vision-of-TRB-100-years-from-now>
The deadline to respond to any or all of these questions is July 1, 2020.
The TRB "Tell Us 'Our' Story" Centennial Challenge is designed to allow as
many of TRB's volunteers and friends as possible to participate in the TRB
Centennial Celebration through the submission of their stories, which make
up the TRB story.
In addition to posting responses to these questions on its website and
publicizing them via its social media channels, TRB will be producing
banners that will display some of the responses to these questions at
various 2021 Annual Meeting venues.
Responses to these questions will dovetail well with the theme for the 2021
Annual Meeting, which is Launching a New Century of Mobility and Quality of
Life.
The links above give the option to submit a response in writing (200 words
or less) or provide a YouTube link to a short video (60 seconds or less)
respondents take with a smart phone. If submitting a written response,
respondents are asked to upload a photo of themselves that will be displayed
with their quote.

Please, consider sharing this call for postdoc among colleagues, post-docs and last-year PhD students.
*** CONTEXT AND MAIN PURPOSE ***
Guaranteeing efficient, resilient and sustainable mobility in modern large cities is a very challenging task, due to growing transport demand, climate changes, industrialization and population increase.
Distributed and real-time monitoring of large-scale multi-modal transport systems is emerging as a solution to meet such demands, thus providing transport actors with novel decision-making tools for more effectively managing mobility, by reducing costs and guaranteeing higher-quality services.
The LICIT laboratory of University of Lyon, ENTPE and IFSTTAR is working with academic (INSA-Lyon, INRIA, LIRIS, CNR-Italy, University of Illinois Chicago, University of Sannio, University of Tartu) and industrial partners (Orange, Lyon Metropole) in the framework of the French ANR project “PROMENADE” (Platform for Resilient Multi-modal Mobility via Multi-layer Networks & Real-time Big-Data Processing).
The PROMENADE project aims to improve transport resilience via big real-time data monitoring, complex networks and machine learning solutions by disposing of large-scale and multi-source datasets on human mobility.
An open source customisable and extensible platform will be proposed to address the different challenges related to engineering the resilience of large-scale urban transport networks, by integrating tools, algorithms and components to perform heterogeneous data collection (IoT sensors, server APIs, mobile networks, social networks, etc.), big data processing and multi-source data mining.
In this context, we are looking for an enthusiastic postdoc with strong background in Distributed Systems Design, IoT and Big Data Processing as well as in Software Engineering, and with an interest and skills in Machine Learning and Data Analysis.
*** DESCRIPTION OF THE POSTDOC ACTIVITIES ***
• The goal of this postdoc is to contribute to the design and prototyping of the architecture of the PROMENADE platform, as well as to the development of the algorithms and solutions for data-driven mobility and network analysis.
• The postdoc will also be involved in supporting the activities of three PhD students, whose thesis topics are related respectively to:
• developing a data-driven modelling framework for (real-time) reconstruction and analysis of mobility practices from multi-source data;
• complex network engineering of large-scale approaches for real-time computation of resilience metrics;
• definition of new resilience indicators for multi-modal transport networks via simulation-driven stress testing and dynamic control strategies for new generation resilient transport networks and systems.
• The postdoc could be involved in teaching activities related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, Data mining and machine learning.
The platform will be implemented by using multiple technologies suited for big data processing, machine learning and IoT integration (Spark, Scala, Python, Kubernetes, etc.).
*** REQUIREMENTS ***
• The candidate shall hold a PhD in Computer Science, on a topic related to big data, distributed computing, scalable software engineering, machine learning for big data.
• Proven experience on IoT, Big Data Architectures and Technologies (Big Data processing and management) and distributed systems: Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Kubernetes, HBase;
• Good scripting and coding skills (bash, java, scala, pyspark, python);
• Autonomous and team working capabilities.
*** OFFER DETAILS ***
• The postdoc will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating research environment including both academic and industrial collaborations, to participate to both computer science and transportation conferences, as well as spending short abroad research periods in the partner institutions.
• Duration: 12 months (with possibility of an extension to 18 months)
• Net Salary: 2,000 – 2,300 € per month depending on the experience.
• Start Date: end of 2019/beginning of 2020.
• Hosting team: LICIT laboratory (http://licit.ifsttar.fr), Lyon, France (EU).
*** APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS ***
Applications in PDF format or informal enquiries by email to angelo.furno(a)ifsttar.fr are welcome.
Applications, written in English should include:
• Curriculum Vitae (including your contact address, work experience, publications, software repositories)
• Cover letter
Deadline for applications: 30 October 2019.
Screening of applications starts immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.
The starting date is negotiable, but preferably it is fixed on November 1st, 2019.
