For those of you who were not Census data analysts when the 1990 Census data was released,
you may be interested in Dowell Myers' book, "Analysis with Local Census Data,
Portraits of Change," Academic Press, 1992. This is an excellent reference covering
Census Bureau definitions, but more importantly, discusses how to use Census data in trend
analyses. Users of Census 2000 data need to be careful in analyzing race data, since in
2000, respondents were able to select more than one answer.
I just checked on
Amazon.com and it is listed for $73.95, with 2 used copies avail for
less than the new price.
You may also be interested in Dowell's webpage:
www-ref.usc.edu/~dowell
which has other demographic analyses, mostly in California.
