Subject: Speaking with Users of Census Data
Hello!
I’m leading a design team that is helping the Census Bureau to improve the user experience
for finding and downloading Census data. The vision is to discover and create more ideal
processes/tools in a way that’s informed by the experience and needs of real users.
To inform this effort, we’re setting up qualitative interviews with regular users of
Census data -- people like you.
Would you be willing to talk with me and my team to share your experience about finding
and accessing Census data? We’re planning a redesign over the coming year that will be
based on what we learn from this field research. We will prototype designs for
user-centered processes/webpages, which we will want to bounce off real users. Building a
pool of relevant volunteers will help drive these test & learn cycles.

Please include your name, your preferred contact information, and a brief summary of your
role or affiliation. I’ll save that information to a spreadsheet and reach back out to

New subject: Troubles with data.census.gov
It is clear that there is plenty to be concerned about with respect to
data.census.gov.
Hope all are aware of this notice on the present ACS site...
American FactFinder (AFF) will be taken offline on March 31, 2020.
My sense is that given the problems with data.census.gov.and the
difficulties that people are experiencing, the old system ought to remain
available intact until there is a general consensus that the problems have
been fixed.

New subject: Troubles with data.census.gov
Not directly related to Todd's note above but I have given up on
data.census.gov (and AFF before that) and use the APIs available from the
CB pretty extensively. Attached is some R code that you might found useful
to call the datasets with APIs (there are 412 datasets available), and get
the required tables with an example.
