The AASHTO State press people chastised me for knowing and not telling them
last year. I would just have to do that once and that would be end. The
Bureau is thinking of reducing the days that the press has it on an
embargoed basis before release. That would hurt their prep time. Be content
that the press has it so can write good stuff. WE ALL HAVE LOST MORE TO BE
EMBARASSED ABOUT THAN THIS.

I also received a call from a local reporter looking
for analysis of
changes
from 1990 to 2000. I find it embarrassing to have to
ask the reporter to
send the information to me - it gives the appearance that the profession
is
asleep at the switch. Why not release the data to the
technicians at the
same time as the press?

Haila,
The flow data they are talking about is COUNTY-COUNTY Worker Flows. They
will be available for public access at the CB website
(
http://www.census.gov/population/www/socdemo/journey.html) from noon on
Wednesday, March 6, 2003. I think that the product is put on an
"embargoed"
website for the press to access it a bit earlier.
Thanks

Subject: [CTPP] new data release?
We just got a call from the local paper. They got a press release from
the
Census that states that the county-to-county worker
flow data will be
available as of midnight tonight (Tuesday).
I went to the Census and the TRB websites and could find nothing about
this,
not even a copy of the press release. Does anyone
know about this?
Thanks.
