Sam:
Excellent question. Hopefully you've sent your comments to Bob
LaMacchia or the Geography Division or Phil Salopek with the
Journey-to-Work Branch in the Population Division. Hopefully they're
crafting a response to a fairly straightforward question?
I'm fairly certain that the Bureau will be relying (mostly?
entirely?) on the massive commercial databases (Dun and Bradstreet,
etc.) that they've purchased to provide updated place-of-work
addresses. But I'm totally uncertain if they (the Bureau) will have
a LUCA-like program to provide you the commercial addresses
to check them out for accuracy. I would hope so, but the LUCA
(local update of census address program) is basically aimed at
improving the sample frame for the residential end, not the work
end.
I know Elaine Murakami is on vacation, so you may want to give Jerry
Everett of FHWA a call. Still, however, it would be useful for Jerry
or Elaine or Tom or somebody to post a response to this e-mail. I
think others would be interested in what you find out....
cheers

I have a question for the CTPP group. About this time
10 years ago
the Census requested of MPO's an up-to-date list of employer
addresses for use in the journey-to-work coding. If you're like us,
you've made lots of improvements locally in the geocoding of these
addresses. But I have not heard a word from the Census on supplying
them with this list for the 2000 geocoding, and I've sent two
e-mails to the Census inquiring about this that to date have gone
unanswered. Does anyone know what, if anything, is going on in this
area? Is it being handled through a different avenue?
