Harry--Let me take a shot at this and tell you what I know. Jonette Kreideweis, vice chair of the AASHTO might have more to say. About two weeks ago the AASHTO CTPP Oversight Board met and made the decision that there would not be any 3-year CTPP data product made with the 2005, 2006 and 2007 data. However, a small subgroup of the Oversight Board, chaired by Jonette is looking into the question of maybe getting some tables with the 2006,07,08 data. One of the driving issues surrounding the development of a special tabulation of 3-year data is deeply embedded in some confidentiality disclosure rules that would apply any cause many of the tables to be either suppressed or heavily collapsed. Needless to say the subgroup is taking a hard look at the utility of any special 3-year tables. Regarding any one year (areas over 65K) there was never any thought given to a special data product. One thing that plagues both the current 3-year data and the one year data is what some call the "swiss-cheese" affect. That is, incomplete coverage across a region. While this affects the current 3-year data more, an opposite issue affects the large cities and towns. Having one value for a town like New York or Phoenix is not always that useful for doing detailed transportation planning. Regarding the 3-year data that is coming out in a few weeks FHWA is working with Census Bureau staff to develop several data profiles containing the transportation related variables. Although one needs to be especially careful in comparing 2000 census data with the 2005,06,07 ACS period estimates the profiles will contain both along with the statistical significance test done for you. The profiles are expected to be out in January.
