That sounds similar to the IT security policies here
and the more I've
learned independently (at least about FB) the more I understand why
it's necessary. If you haven't heard about FB's latest "instant
personilization" - the default is being opted in, so you must change
your privacy settings to prevent it - you may want to check it out.
It looks to me more like complete "depersonalization" of your
information, including tracking any websites you visit.
In addition, here in Colorado, the Attorney General's office has
raised some serious legal questions about the "terms of use"
agreements as they may apply to any public agencies which have
established presences on the various social networking sites. The
primary issue is the clause which transfers legal liability from the
site-owner to the end-user: apparently, that is both illegal and
un-state-constitutional here. You may want to check with your
in-house counsel and/or state AG's office about the implications of
TOUs or EULAs for the various networking sites fi you're a public agency.

I'd be curious to know how many agencies cannot take advantage of
this due to social network blockage by I.T. policies. I, for one,
cannot access any Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, or any
other social networking pages. That being said, we cannot create
and/or take advantage of those same technologies, particularly as
an avenue for Public Participation.
