ASSISTANT PLANNER - TRANSPORTATION
Job Description
This position involves technical planning support for the Transportation
Planning Section of MAPA, the metropolitan planning organization for the
Omaha region. The primary area of work will relate to development and
annual update of the regional TIP, staff support for Iowa RPA activities
and committee, staff support for New Freedom and Job Access and Reverse
Commute (JARC) project and committee, coordinating ITS and other
metropolitan transportation activities.
Specific activities will include data collection and assembly,
preparation of estimates and forecasts and data analysis and
presentation. This work requires a high level of quantitative and
analytical skills: familiarity with the TIP, ITS and RPA planning
process is required; some familiarity with GIS and data base application
is required. At times, this position will also be involved in other
areas within the broader transportation planning process and a
background in the overall transportation modeling process will be
helpful.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ability to work with local elected officials and, state/federal
officials and the public is essential. The ideal candidate should be
motivated, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and
have proactive work habits.
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in transportation or regional
planning or engineering or related studies and three years of
progressively responsible experience, or any time-equivalent combination
of experience and education.
SALARY:
Salary negotiable: $41,653 - $56,856. MAPA reserves the right to hire at
an appropriate level.
