Greg:
Yes, ACS has vehicle occupancy data in the Commuting (Journey to Work)
topic. ACS calls it "Means of Transportation to Work," and breaks the
information down into single-occupant, 2-person, 3-person, and
4-or-more-person carpools (as well as bus, train, bicycle, etc.) in the
standard tables that you can download from American Factfinder on the
Census website. You can get added detail from the Public Use Microdata
Sample (PUMS) dataset, which takes the variable up to 7-person carpools
(e.g., vanpools). But it has a smaller sample size (1 percent for each
annual file versus about 2.3 percent), and it uses 100,000 population
PUMS data areas instead of counties, cities, etc. The ability (or
obligation) to create your own crosstabs may be considered an advantage
(or disadvantage).

Subject: [CTPP] Occupancy Data
Is it possible to get vehicle occupancy stats for work trips from the
ACS?
Any suggestions on getting vehicle occupancy data (that is, other than
going out and counting it J )
