This report finds that the share of household expenditures for transportation has dropped
by 5 percent for homeowners, and 4 percent for renters, and the share of expenditures for
housing has increased by 3 percent for homeowners, and 5 percent for renters. Despite
the drop in the share for transportation overall, the share spent on GASOLINE has
increased. People keep vehicles for many more years (as reflected in the National
Household Transportation Survey results
