Not in Montgomery county, where more than are reported work within the county alone. This visualization reports 250,295 total resident workers, the 2009 – 2013 ACS reports 519,287, of which ~310,000 stay in the county and another ~160,000 work in the three nearest (well within 293 miles) counties/county equivalents (DC). So, I think it can’t be that. That logic does hold in less dense areas. A random check of Alabama counties yields the same error. Maybe this is LEHD/LODES data? It is notoriously missing workers… (But even LODES shows 432,000 workers for Montgomery county, MD). Those show up as 0 workers due to suppression. Also, tracts are referenced, but that set is not reported at tract. I welcome your thoughts. Penelope Z.
