Identify where your block groups & TAZs nest (and where they don't)

All, As we've been wrapping our minds around how to redelineate our block groups for better alignment with our TAZs, our colleague Joe Flood greatly aided this effort by creating a tool to identify nesting relationships from an input table of 2010 census blocks with the block groups and TAZs they belong to. He wrote it in Python [https://github.com/dvrpc/BlockGroupTAZ], but was kind enough to make an Executable (.exe) file [ https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1sMZxn-9352uUV1Bc3Ys7_PzJ9e-OLn5L] for non-coders to download, run, upload an input table, and get the resulting outputs classifying TAZs and block groups by the following nesting relationships. - One TAZ = One Block Group - One TAZ = Many Block Groups - Many TAZs = One Block Group - Many TAZs = Many Block Groups - No Population With it, we've been able to map out where our geographies least align--the "Many TAZs = Many Block Groups" areas--and concentrate our efforts there before examining other areas. Additionally, our "No Population" TAZs are serving as good candidates for special block groups where we may have little to no population but an employment center we'd like reflected in the CTPP workplace tables and destinations for commute flows. PSAP - 120 days start date

Hi everyone, So, I had heard from different sources, that the 120 days might get reset to the date of the GUPS webinar date. I clarified this with my Census Bureau district office this week. They said that there was internal miscommunication and that the true deadline is 120 days from when we received the packet from Census Bureau, and it would not be extended based on the webinar date. Are you getting this same response from Census Bureau as well? Thank you. 2020 Census PSAP GUPS, Webinar, and Pre-plans

Hello everyone, My name is Kathy Yu and I am part of the NCTCOG MPO, which is the 2020 Census PSAP PPO for our 16-county area in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. I learned that not everyone has been receiving information about the GUPS Software download, webinar information, and shapefile pre-plans, so I am providing links that I know of here. Please post to the listserv with any follow-up questions or information. GUPS Software download: I received the following information from my Census District office. GUPS software for PSAP (GUPS.zip) is now available here<https://www2.census.gov/geo/pvs/gups/>. Please make sure to review Item 1.1 of the attached FAQ which mentions resolution of an issue with non-administrators trying to use the GUPS Plug-In. Webinar: They have posted Census GUPS Webinar Dates under the "Training Webinar Information" link on the following page: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/decennial-census/about/psap.html I would suggest that you cc your district office on your email to reserve a webinar. I guess my email to reserve a webinar was sent to spam, so I needed someone to intercede on my behalf. Documentation: (Attached) PSAP_FAQ.docx - PSAP FAQ developed by our district office (I believe Item 1.1 in here was developed from our experience in trying to allow Non-Administrative Users be able to use the Plug-In.) I also have a 2020CensusPSAP_GUPSGuide.pdf but it is 24 MB. Can anyone suggest a way to make this available to the listserv? Need to copy files from administrator's User files to get the plug in for a user with no administrative privileges 2. Cannot share projects folders between users easily. If a second user tries to use the same folder, it asked to delete the previous projects. You can export and import project.zip files. 3. I expected that the pre-plan tracts and block groups would appear under working county in the layers, and the 2010 shapefiles would appear under 2010_geographies, but this is not always the case. The data have been delivered from Census and is busily being processed into the software for an anticipated release by the end of March, 2019. Currently, you can download the table with the table names, geographies and variable definitions, to start thinking about all the juicy analyses you will be able to do with the next CTPP! Remember, we are in active solicitation for the 2020 - 2024 program, so if you are a state person and your state has not committed yet, it's certainly not too late, and we need your support! Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) instructions and data distribution should begin next week

During the continuing federal shutdown, a lot of the usual communications channels are out of commission. I am writing to share: 2020 Census staff in regional offices are saying that Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) instructions and data distribution should begin next week, regardless of federal gov shutdown. Multiple sources confirming this. So… If you are a MPO or regional planner who registered for Census PSAP work, watch your snail mail a week from now.
