Hello,
I am trying to download 5-year block group data from the 2005-2009 ACS for Colorado. I have noticed many of the text sequence files are empty. It looks like the first eight tables are all empty.
Specifically, I am trying to get block group data for sequence number 1 (e20095co0001000.txt).
I looked at other states and these files are also empty. Am I looking in the wrong directory for block group data for these tables?
Any help would be appreciated.

To add to Nancy's comment, it is fairly easy to create Household income x HH size variable from ACS PUMS. Variables are NP (number of persons in household) and HINCP(Household income (past 12 months)).

1. Krishnan, you are correct, B19019 is the only table combining income and household size. I'm not familiar with "IPF" but you could create a tabulation of household ranges by household size using the PUMS file for the ACS. As a side note, Table B19019 is not available in the 5-year ACS. The 5-year has only B19119, Family income by family size. So, you cannot even get table B19019 for places below 20,000 pop.

Subject: [CTPP] ACS Household Income by Household size and R Scripts
This is a two part question:
1. AFAIK there is no direct Household income x HH size table available in the ACS. The only thing that is available is Table B19019 (Median HH income x HH Size). Am i correct? And the only way to obtain the desired HH Inc x HH size table is via IPF. If others have a better idea please let me know.
2. Has anyone written the R equivalent of the eak_0{n}.sas to read the summary files available here: http://www2.census.gov/acs2005_2009_5yr/summaryfile/UserTools/? If anyone has, do you mind sharing with me?
TIA,
Krishnan

Hi Everyone -
The AFF2 training session is now confirmed. Please use the link below
to register for the session. I have reserved 220 spaces.
https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/resources/webconference/web_conf_learner_re
g.aspx?webconfid=23454
After you register, you will get the meeting URL and the telephone
number.
Michelle Jiles on the Census Bureau's ACS staff will conduct the
training. Michelle previously worked for the Census Bureau's
Journey-to-work and Migration Branch, so she is familiar with the CTPP
user community.
I have asked her to cover examples using both tables from ACS and 2010
Census SF 1. She will mention but not provide training on the ACS
system to download files. The Block Group data from ACS is not
available via AFF2 but ONLY through the download system. If there is
time at the end, she can discuss this more fully, or else, we will
arrange for another training session.
We will have plenty of time for questions and answers.
Ed Christopher will be in charge of the session. Ed will try to record
the session, but we can't guarantee success because it is not something
we do on a regular basis. I'll ask the webmeeting people for help in
advance! Because of the difficulty in scheduling this session, I will
not be able to attend.

Hi Everyone on the CTPPlist! Are you tired of me yet? Today is such a
fun day, with lots of information to share.
This report was finalized and posted TODAY. Thank you to Bruce Spear
at Cambridge Systematics, and to Nanda Srinivasan, TRB staff for NCHRP,
for getting this report completed!

My favorite pages are: 52, 63-79, and Chapter 4. Hope this intrigues
you enough to print out and read the full report.

A new report (labeled as August) is now posted on the FHWA webpage in
both HTML and pdf formats.
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/census_issues/ctpp/status_report/
This issue includes a brief article (by me) about Summary File 1 and
different ways to access the data. Thank you to all the CTPP listserv
members who have helped others learn about alternative sites to access
the 2010 Census results.
We will have a training session on American FactFinder 2 to be
conducted by Census Bureau staff in early October. I hope to have more
information by tomorrow!
We were told today that "there is no going back" to the legacy AFF for
the new round of ACS data, with weights incorporating 2010 Census
results . Also, the 2010 decennial census Summary File 1 is on AFF2.

This new report generator from the Missouri Census Data Center that uses
the Summary File 1 was shared with the State Data Center (SDC) network

Subject: New SF1 report applications from MCDC
The Missouri Census Data Center announces two new report modules for
displaying data from the 2010 Summary File 1 data sets. These modules
are similar to ones we have developed for the American Community Survey
and 2000 census Summary File 3 data. You access both of the
applications using a shared front-end menu app that lets you choose up
to 4 geographic areas. The URL is
http://mcdc1.missouri.edu/sf1_2010/sf1_2010_menu.html (there is a link
to it at the top of the Quick Links navigation box which appears at the
upper-right of most page on the mcdc web site.) This works almost
identically to the menu front end for the ACS profiles. You select
your geography and hit the "Generate Report" button. This produces the
profile report with columns of data for each of the chosen geographic
areas. At the top of the report page is a link to "SF1 Detailed
Tables Menu". The geography selected is passed through; you now get
to select your detailed tables before hitting the "Generate Report"
button to view a report where each selected table is displayed for each
selected geographic area.
As with our other profile report products this one provides links to
dynamically generated charts associated with the tables and has
"drill-down" links that let you view the detailed table from the profile
items were derived.
See the MCDC home page ( http://mcdc.missouri.edu/ ) for more details
and pictures with arrows. The first line of the first picture is
taken from a sample profile report and says Note: Use this application
with caution, it's still in beta mode.

Of course, the travel budget for conducting on-site training is limited,
but the first thing to do is ASK. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Please send your training requests to Penelope Weinberger at AASHTO
pweinberger(a)aashto.org She is coordinating the requests. The 3 people
who are doing the training are: Penelope, Ed Christopher from FHWA
Resource Center, and Liang Long from Cambridge Systematics. For a
1.5 day workshop, or even a 1 day workshop, it is best to have 2 people
as the trainers.
If you are looking for a computer-based training course, you will need
to find a host with a computer training room. Often a State DOT has a
training room that works. All the computers need web access, since the
2006-2008 CTPP data are accessed via the web, and not using mail-out
CD's which we used for CTPP2000.
After our first computer-based training session for this release of
CTPP, 1.5 days was determined to be much better than a 1 day session.
That is why the sessions in California are 1.5 days.
