The Census Bureau Geography Division will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall
at the upcoming Transportation Research Board annual meeting, at which
demonstrations of the Traffic Analysis Zone delineation software, known as
the TAZ MAF/TIGER Partnership Software (or TAZ MTPS), will be conducted for
interested attendees. Staff will be available to answer questions about
the software and the TAZ program itself, in addition to demonstrating the
software’s functionalities.
The Exhibit Hall is located within the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, and
will be open Sunday, January 23, 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. (Opening Reception),
Monday, January 24, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 25, 9:30
a.m.-4:00 p.m. The Census Bureau booth is #1117.
Hope to see you there!

Now that we have all had time to digest the 2010 population count and the
2005-2009 5 year ACS estimates the 3-year 2007-2009 ACS have arrived.
Today the U.S Census Bureau announced the release of the 2007-2009
American Community Survey (ACS) 3-year estimates on American FactFinder.
This release covers the same topics included in the previously released
2009 ACS 1-year estimates. The 2007-2009 ACS estimates have a 3-year time
frame and are only available for areas with populations of 20,000 or more.
You can access the newly-released data on American FactFinder at:

data release please visit the ACS web site at:

FYI--Besides the 2009 Tiger Files it looks like we will have the new
2010 Files before the 2010 Block population counts come out in around
March of 2011. This is good news. Just yesterday I was in a meeting
where the question came up.
==================
The Census Bureau has released 2009 TIGER/Line Shapefiles today.
Available here: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/
This will be the last public release of TIGER data until early 2011.
This early 2011 release will include all of the updated 2010 tabulation
geography that serves as the geographic framework for 2010 Census data
tabulations (including the new 2010 Census tracts, block groups, blocks,
voting districts, and much more). Around the same time as this 2011
geospatial data release, Census will be releasing the tabular data
with 2010 Census population counts down to the Census block level. See
the attached document for more information, including changes under
consideration and a request for input.

I was wondering if there are any MPO's out there that have more than one urbanized area in your area and if so how is this handled? I am also seeking opinions of other MPO professionals about the pro's and con's of having two in one MPO area, especially if they are not contiguous to each other based on the urban area criteria.
Thanks,

Thank you all for the discussions about MOE re-calculations when using
ACS data.
We have added links to 2 different calculators to the FHWA web page on
census data. One is from the State Data Center network, and the other
is from Univ of South Florida, Center for Urban Transportation Research.
Please look under the "training" section on this page.

Hope to see many of you at the TRB annual meeting in a couple of weeks.
Don't forget that there is an ACS data workshop on Sunday, January 23
from 9:00 a.m. - noon. The Census Bureau Geography Division is planning
to show the prototype version of the TAZ module of MTPS during that
session. They will also have a booth in the TRB Exhibit Hall. This
workshop was organized by TRB Committee on Urban Data (ABJ30): Census
subcommittee.

All--
You might find these videos by Hans Rosling on presenting health data extremely useful/interesting. The first is a 4 minute long YouTube video (I know some of you cannot watch YouTube from your work computers). The second is 18 minutes long, but is available on a blog. If you have an opportunity to view these, you will agree that these are exceptional presentations.
Thanks to Alan Pisarski for sharing this with us.

I took care of the "drive carefully" guy from my end as list
administrator. I put the subscribed email address on the "moderate" list
which means that I have to approve any posts from that address before they
get posted. Although this sometimes adds delay to the posts people make
from getting to the list, I have found this the most efficient way to
reduce the "Out of Office" replies that make it through. My advice is if
you get an "Out of Office" rely from the list just delete it and know that
I will put that address on the moderate list at my earliest convenience.
Also, if you post to the list and get a "message waiting for approval"
note please bear with me and recognize that you have been put on the
moderate list for one reason or another.
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience.

Hi, Cliff
The ACS General Guidebook has one chapter devoted to calculating MOEs for
derived estimates. You may find it helpful. I was trying to locate this
document on line, but didn't see it. Attached is my downloaded version

I am looking for guidance on how to combine median income values for
several census tracts into a single value and associated margin of error.
I recall seeing something about this topic in an ACS document but cannot
locate the information at this time. Any help would be appreciated.
