[ABJ30] TRB Critical Issues

We have just been asked by TRB for our input on the critical issues. As was mentioned at our annual meeting I just submitted the notion of "privacy and confidentiality" as our critical issue suggestion. Here is the wording I used. "Privacy and Confidentiality The issue that is underlying most of the others is the notion of "Privacy and Confidentiality". This issue is very broad and is affecting all of us especially in the data community. On one hand there is a public sentiment to protect an individuals’ privacy but on the other, our political process is very participatory which means that it thrives on data and information. I would bet that if each one of us took a quick glance at our own transportation domains we could each come up with list of privacy and confidentiality issues facing us today. What makes this issue so perplexing is vast number of viewpoints and perspectives embedded in it.
