The Open Source Application Development Portal Adds More Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS) Applications for Download
The <http://itsforge.net/> Open Source Application Development Portal
(OSADP) is a web-based portal that provides access to and supports the
collaboration, development, and use of open-source ITS-related applications.
The OSADP has added a number of new ITS-related applications that are
available free to the public.
The following new applications are now available for download:
1. Dynamic Intermodal Routing Environment for Control and Telematics -
Analysis, Modeling and Simulation (DIRECTView-AMS) is a visualization
application designed to visualize the performance measures generated during
simulations using DIRECT software with options to turn on and off scenarios.
This tool can be used for evaluating dynamic mobility applications and
active transportation and demand management strategies, applications, and
concepts.
2. Intelligent Network Flow Optimization Analysis, Modeling, and
Simulation (AMS) consists of three different applications used in the San
Mateo, California, AMS test bed effort-queue warning, speed harmonization,
and cooperative adaptive cruise control. These cross-functional applications
were modeled together and used simulation inputs (sensor and connected
vehicle data) to generate vehicle-specific commands and desired speed
decisions.
3. Connected and Automated Speed Harmonization software analyzes
real-time traffic conditions to calculate and communicate speed commands for
connected and automated vehicles (CAVs), with the overall goal of
harmonizing traffic flow. This application includes software to run on a
server that simulates a traffic management center (TMC) to collect the data
needed to perform a speed control algorithm and communicate results with
CAVs; on-board speed control software for CAVs to enable two-way
communication with the TMC; and an on-board Human Machine Interface to
display information on current speed, commanded speed, confidence in the
commanded speed, and the status of surrounding CAVs to the CAV driver.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Intelligent Transportation Systems
Joint Program Office (ITS JPO) <http://www.its.dot.gov/> funds the OSADP to
help facilitate the advancement of research, development, planning, testing,
and deployment of connected vehicle and traveler-related applications and
ITS. The OSADP features source code, software, applications, and resources
(e.g., documentation, licenses, data) to support the use or further
development of these ITS-related applications.
Public agencies, service providers, researchers, application developers, and
others are invited to visit the OSADP at http://itsforge.net

Analyze This! What YOU want to know.
Unsolved Mysteries: Have a hard-to-solve problem that needs to be solved?
JOINT CALL FOR WORKSHOP IDEAS
Sunday, January 8, 2017 . 9 AM - 12 PM . Washington, D.C.
Six standing committees of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) are
coming together to sponsor an interactive workshop for the 2017 Annual
Meeting. The workshop entitled, "Analyze This! What YOU Want to Know" will
present three intriguing, real-world problems faced by professionals in
transportation. Working in small teams, participants will come up with
strategies to address each problem and to share and learn amongst their
peers. This workshop is intended to:
(A) create an atmosphere where people with diverse backgrounds and skills
interact and share ideas
(B) enable discussion of various approaches with a definite application but
without a foregone conclusion
(C) highlight areas where further research is needed
Workshop Details
Three hard-to-solve problems will be selected from a pool of submissions
before the workshop. These real-world problems should summarize a case study
from the perspective of an individual or project team. The case studies
should contain pertinent information on the type of problem presented,
geographic context, who was impacted, and the impact of not reaching a
resolution. All three problems will be shared on-line before the Annual
Meeting so that participants have a chance to see what will be discussed.
The authors of the problems selected will present their problem at the TRB
Annual Meeting.
Problem Idea Submission
The workshop is scheduled for 9 AM - 12 PM on Sunday, January 8, 2016 during
the TRB Annual Meeting. The six sponsoring TRB Committees are asking members
of the greater transportation community to submit problem ideas that will be
used as case studies during the workshop. Submissions will be reviewed by
members and friends of the sponsoring committees. Deadline for submission is
October 1, 2016. Please submit an idea using the on-line form located at:
http://adb50.github.io/analyze-this/. Selected problem ideas will be
notified by October 15, 2016.
2016 Mysteries
Last year, workshop attendees addressed three mysteries. Coca-Cola was
seeking corporate strategies to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips. The
City of Boulder asked the group to explore repurposing travel lanes for
multimodal projects. Lastly, the City of Edmonton wanted to know how to
represent connected and autonomous vehicle technologies in their regional
travel demand model.
