Department of Civil Engineering, University of Memphis
Position Summary: The Department of Civil Engineering, University of Memphis
invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in transportation
beginning as soon as possible in the broader area of demand-responsive
technology-enhanced shared transportation systems, smart cities, autonomous
and connected vehicles. Outstanding candidates with expertise in related
areas will also be considered. The successful candidate will work with Dr.
Sabya Mishra and on projects related to transportation demand modeling,
planning and operations (both on passenger and freight). Salary is extremely
competitive and includes full benefits. The appointment period will be for
12 months initially with possibility of extension to second year based on
performance.
Minimum Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or
have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with
a background in transportation. Applicants from civil engineering, applied
mathematics, computer science and/or operations research will be preferred
but other disciplines will also be considered. Candidates should have a
publication record in transportation and/or related fields. Successful
candidates will be fluent in English, have excellent interpersonal,
organizational, and communication (both oral and written) skills, and be
able to work independently and within a collaborative energetic research
team.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to
conduct scholarly research, contribute to the formulation and submission of
manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed journals, mentor graduate
research assistants and students.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R) is
seeking an Operations Research Analyst for the Office of Spatial Analysis
and visualization (OSAV), within the Bureau of Transportation Statistics
(BTS). BTS is a principal federal statistical agency that develops key
information on the extent, use, and consequences of all forms of
transportation. BTS is responsible for leading the development of high
quality transportation data and statistics, including geospatial data and
information; and advancing their effective uses in both public and private
decision making.
This position is responsible for managing critical national geospatial and
transportation network analysis programs, conducting transportation network
analyses and effectively communicating results. The incumbent will develop
geospatial network analysis tools and applications for BTS involving the
development of interactive transportation network data, analysis and
visualization tools and maps for range of customer segments. The incumbent
will assist in the development of multimodal freight and passenger network
modeling capable of supporting intermodal network analysis and the creation
or adaption of models to flow people, goods, vehicles, and craft over the
transportation networks. The incumbent works in a cross-unit corporate team
environment on geospatial data, analysis and visualization and will
occasionally serve on cross-cutting teams within BTS related to a multitude
of agency program responsibilities.
