Human Impact Partners is looking for a Research Associate to work on Health
Impact Assessment (HIA) and Health in All Policies (HiAP) projects. This is
an exciting opportunity to be part of a very rapidly growing field that is

*About the Position*
The Research Associate will participate in conducting creative research on
a range of policies, plans and projects in collaboration with other HIP
staff. Research projects are conducted in partnership with community
groups, public health and government agencies, elected officials, academic
researchers, and other stakeholders. The primary function of the Research
Associate is to participate in our HIA and HiAP projects in the following
ways:
- Conducting literature reviews;
- Accessing large, publically available data sets to describe the
distribution of social, economic, and environmental conditions at local,
state, and national levels;
- Cleaning and analyzing data using Excel or R to predict how changes in
social, economic, and environmental conditions may impact specific health
outcomes;
- Blending quantitative data findings with qualitative data to produce
mixed-methods reports;
- Writing reports and preparing presentations;
- Offering training and technical assistance to community groups, public
health agencies, and other stakeholders;
- Communicating to stakeholders and decision-makers about the importance
of considering health in policy-making.
*Salary:* $60,000-$65,000, based on experience
*Start date:* September 2014
The position is full time and based in Oakland, California.
*Qualifications*
Requirements:
- Completion of a master’s degree in public health or public policy with
a concentration in health education, community health, community
organizing, or public policy;
- Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience with statistical
analyses;
- Strong research and writing skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time;
- Ability to travel as necessary to support projects and to conduct
trainings;
- Interest in HIP’s values of equity, community, justice, and
inter-connectedness;
- Good interpersonal qualities.
In addition to English language fluency, mastery of an additional language
is highly desirable.
Prior knowledge and/or experience with Health Impact Assessment and/or
Health in All Policies projects is not required.
