No longer the stuff of science fiction, driverless cars already are being tested in
numerous U.S. markets. These autonomous vehicles may revolutionize the automotive world,
removing human error from driving, reshaping transportation systems and transforming the
country’s roadway infrastructure. In fact, existing technology such as collision avoidance
systems and vehicle backup cameras represent steps towards a more automated future. Yet
such progress also raises questions regarding regulations, ethics and safety management.
In this Forum, experts will review current technology, realistic long-term plans, and the
risks and benefits of a driverless future to the public.
