Dear CTPP Listserv members:  (response below is from OMB)

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is responsible for defining metro and micro areas.

After the 2010 Census, we expect to complete a full review of the statistical areas in 2013.  This review will apply the 2010 statistical area standards to 2010 Census data and the American Community Survey 5-year estimates of commuting and employment.  We expect to publish the 2010 standards in an FR notice before December 2010.

Subject: [CTPP] using the ACS to define metro areas

Does anyone know whether metro areas, or whatever they are called, will be adjusted annually based on results of the ACS county level data? Or what data will be used in the definitions? Historically it’s been based on the decennial census numbers about county commuter patterns and population growth.
