Yes, the Geography Division is considering proposing an increase in the minimum population size for block groups from 600 to 1,200.  This proposed increase is not official yet-- it must be reviewed by the Census Bureau's Statistical Areas Committee before going out for public comment, but the 1,200 threshold was suggested by Census Bureau statisticians.

week at TRB that the CB is considering changing the size of Block Groups, to make
