Subject: [CTPP] TAZs and rural areas
Date: Wed, Feb 20, 2013 8:12 am

Welcome,

We are expecting the small area geography to be available for flows for the following geography pairs:

Tract   Tract
TAD      TAD
TAZ (Base)       TAZ (Base)
TAD      TAZ (Base)
TAZ (Base)       TAD
State-Place      TAZ (Base)
TAZ (Base)       Place

So yes, is the answer.  The data should be less spotty than the 2000 data for several reasons, one is that the matrix is for all geos of the given level (i.e., you can ask for a flow from a tract in CA to one in KS - and if there is sufficient data you will get it), and another reason is that there is a methodology to privacy protect the data so it can be produced without so much suppression.  Some of the data will be perturbated - it will be abundantly clear which, and the totals will not match for data of a similar area, but there will be data.

The data is expected in Mid-2013

First time poster here.

Will Part 3 of the 5-year CTPP be available at the Census tract level of geography for all MPO's? Or will the data only be available at the TAZ level specified by each MPO. I am doing comparative research across MPO's and will need to create OD matrices at the CT level for many different regions.  I was able to do this using CTPP 2000, but it's time for an update. On that note, will Part 3 coverage be spotty? Using the CTPP 2000 data, my impression was that I was able to create matrices without a lot of "missing" or suppressed values. Can I expect the same after the migration to ACS 5 year data?

Thanks for your response.

Hi, Jason

For the purpose of CTPP 2006-2010 data, CTPP program asked MPOs and State DOTs delineated TAZs for their responding areas.  For counties that were not claimed by MPOs and State DOTs, Census Tracts are the default geographies.  This process was completed in the year of 2011.  The Census Bureau has released TAZ boundaries without data in their ftp site:

ftp://ftp2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2010/TAZ/2010/

You can obtain more information of TAZ/TAD delineation on this AASHTO website.

Hello

I am new to idea of TAZs (traffic analysis zones).
I was wondering if there has been any release of a new TAZs boundaries for the country?
How are TAZs delineated for rural areas? (Non-MPO area) What is the best source in understanding TAZs and in relation to census data?

Thank you
Jason
