Greetings Robert -
Our MPO, the
Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council, shares responsibility for
the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh Urbanized Area (UA) with two other
MPOs: the Orange and Ulster County Transportation Councils. The three MPOs
collectively meet TMA planning requirements such as the development of
a joint Congestion Management Process, while each MPO is responsible
for carrying out the basic metropolitan transportation planning process for
their county. There are two other UAs (Middletown and Kingston) within
the three counties, but they are within the MPO planning areas - defined as
each county.
Sincerely,
Mark Debald, Transportation Program Administrator

I was wondering if there are any
MPO’s out there that have more than one urbanized area
in your area and if so how is this handled? I am also seeking opinions of other MPO
professionals about the pro’s and con’s of having two in one MPO area,
especially if they are not contiguous to each other based on the urban area
criteria.
Thanks,
Robert
