Elaine, Krishnan, JJ-

Thank you very much for the data.  I’m not sure what I will do with it.  But, it is great to have.

I do have a couple of comments/questions….

·         Am I mis-understanding the 1980 dataset?  Shouldn’t the folder/sub-directory be named to reference San Jose rather than the San Joaquin Valley?

·         Is there no data for the ‘West Region’?

As JJ mentioned, we have only a few of the 1980 UTPP files available.  I have attached the list of what we have.

They are (mostly) in flat ASCII.

Hi Everyone,

The 1990 CTPP Part 7 data, which include all states, are now available for download at:
ftp://ftp.camsys.com/clientsupport/CTPPdata/1990%20CTPP%20Part7/

The 1980 UPTT data are flat files and only available for certain MPOs. The data, along with a summary file for data sources and formats are also available at:
ftp://ftp.camsys.com/clientsupport/CTPPdata/1980UTPP/

Please use the user name and password for both sites:

Thanks,

Elaine

Are there any plans to post the 1990 and 1980 data online so that interested parties can download the same?

1990 CTPP Part 7 at tract level!  I did not remember that.     I had Brian Gardner look for the CDs in my cubicle at USDOT Navy Yard.  JJ Zang will pick them up in the later part of next week (after the TRB Planning applications conference) and make a copy for Chuck.  There are 4 CDs and until we look at them, we will not know if all the states are included.

p.s.  Bob Paddock of Met Council found the 1980 UTPP file layouts and will be sending them to me! So, now we can write SAS code to read in the flat ASCII files.

Chuck- I wonder if  the 1990 CTPP part 7 will help. It had tracts at the workplace but I am not sure if it covered the the whole state. And then finding it is another issue. Here is what i found to atleast shed some light on part 7, see page 188.
http://onlinepubs.trb.org/onlinepubs/conf/1995/cp4/cp4.pdf. I could not find any of my 1990 transview versions of the data. I know I have a complete set minus one state somewhere.  If you can find one of the CDs even though you can not extract the data without the extraction software look on it to see if there are any PDF files with documentation stashed on it.  I seem to recall that there is.

Sorry I could not be any more help right now.

This is part of an ongoing research project on describing changes in rural/suburban/urban patterns in California (perhaps elsewhere, as well).

On the other hand, the “urban” elements of the CTPP is restricted to metropolitan counties, and the finest level geographies are either TAZ, block group or census tract. Whether or not the TAZes aggregate to census tracts is unknown.
