Over the last few months I have gotten involved with an organization
that links users, producers and disseminators of government statistical
data together. The organization goes by the name of the Association of
Public Data Users and attached is their February newletter as a sample
of what the organization is about. While the organization tends to
focus more on Census and Economic data my intent is to bring our
transportation world closer to them and their world closer to ours.

Thought I would pass this along. It looks like just another avenue for
finding data is closing. According to their website "Due to budgetary
constraints, the Economic Indicators service
(http://www.economicindicators.gov) will be discontinued effective March
1, 2008". Somewhat ironic is that this website is basically a
compilation of links for BEA and Census that are all in one spot. I am
not sure how much could really be saved by eliminating this site.

I just thought I would pass this along. It seems pretty clear that our
Travel Data Users Forum where we investigated what would happen to our
travel behavior given the rising cost of energy really hit the mark.
Nathan Erlbaum just passed along a link a newspaper article where he had
to speak to the topic and his presentation from the Forum.

I also gave a webinar presentation last week as part of the TMIP program
which can be found and viewed at
http://tmip.fhwa.dot.gov/discussions/webinars/archive/01292008_trb/. Of
the many things I covered I did spend a good portion of my time on the
Forum.
finally, given the demand that I have had for the slides from the forum
I have them posted at
