I snagged this from the AMPO newletter. In it are some serious things
for the data community to be thinking about.
----------
TRB recently released Special Report 288, Metropolitan Travel
Forecasting: Current Practice and Future Direction. This report examines
metropolitan travel forecasting models that inform decisions on major
transportation system investments and policies. The AMPO Travel
Modeling Work Group and staff worked closely with the TRB committee that
produced this report, including a joint meeting in Berkeley in 2005.
The final report explores what improvements may be needed to the models
and how federal, state, and local agencies can achieve them. Were now
working with AASHTO to form a group of MPO and state DOT modeling
experts to review the study and develop a collaborative response to its
findings and recommendations. The report can be accessed at
http://www.trb.org/news/blurb_detail.asp?id=7821. This site also
includes a link to extensive data and findings of surveys of MPOs that
were used to develop the report.
