Subject Call for NCHRP 8-36 Research
Projects
AASHTO SCOP Data Subcommittee Members:
Please see the attached note from Dave Lee, the Chair of the Standing
Committee on Planning's Research Subcommittee. This is a call for NCHRP
8-36 problem statements and other NCHRP research ideas for consideration
by SCOP.
Please consider whether there are any data specific topics that our Data
Subcommittee may want to recommend to SCOP for consideration. Draft
problem statements are due July 13th.
If you have ideas, I encourage you to put a problem statement together.
If you would like some help or a forum to bounce ideas off of we could
schedule a conference call with subcommittee members or I would be happy
to work with you.
This will be a topic on the agenda for our Data Subcommittee Meeting on
June 11, 2007 in Vermont. So, we can discuss ideas in Vermont too.
Thank you.

This is just a heads up on the TRB summer meetings in Chicago this
year. Our committee will be meeting Monday morning July 9th between
10:00 am and 11:45 am. While we will be spending time talking about our
plans for the annual meeting we will also spend some time talking about
the strategic direction of the committee. Although I have not vetted
this yet my intent is to build upon the Millennium paper that we did 7
years ago and use that process to help set a strategic direction for the
new (unnamed) chair. Although it was never really articulated I did use
that document as blueprint to follow when I assumed leadership of the
committee. I would like to afford the new chair the same opportunity.

Tom,
Attached is a new CRS report on transportation congestion that I thought
might be of interest to you. The report is entitled "Surface
Transportation Congestion: Policy and Issues." Please forward to others
at TRB that might be interested to see it.
Hope you doing well.

This is a heads up that the TRB deadline for workshop submittals for the
January meeting is rapidly approaching, June 1, 2007. As of this minute
the Urban Data committee has no workshops planned that I know of.
However, if you have interest in a workshop and can take on its
organization please let me know so we can get it into the hopper. For
the June 1 deadline I would need to know the workshop title, length
(Half Day/Full Day), description, sponsoring committees, and
co-sponsors. Remember if you are interested in a workshop the committee
will be more than happy to help sponsor it but the onus of planning and
organizing it would fall on you as the responsible committee member.
Let me know if you have anything or if you are thinking about a
particular topic.
