I got this from Tom Palmerlee...
Several items of importance surfaced last week. Alan Pisarski and Tim
Lomax both testified before the Highways and Transit Subcommittee of
House Transportation and Infrastructure. In response to a request from
members of Congress, Alan submitted the attached piece on Department
data needs. Also attached is Tim's testimony.
At a session on Transportation Information Assets and Impacts, Neil
Pedersen, Maryland State Highway Director, gave an excellent
presentation on executive information needs. That is also attached.
This fits in with the decision at the data section research subcommittee
to focus more on executive information needs. I encourage you to share
these with your committees.
If you have not already planned your day, attached is the agenda for the
ADUS workshop which Karl Petty one of our newest members has been
developing. Please distribute you to those you think might be
interested.

Hi, Mark, Ed and Ralph. If you have a chance, and you think it's
appropriate, can you email out the enclosed agenda for the TRB Workshop
that is being held this coming Sunday morning on ADUS systems and
freeway operations to your respective (sub)committee email lists? This
workshop is being sponsored by Highway Traffic Monitoring, Urban
Transportation Data and Information Systems, and the ADUS subcommittee.
Since we were a bit late getting the agenda on the web site I just
wanted to make sure that people knew what we were going to be covering.
Thanks.
Karl

>From the RITA Administrator,
I am pleased to announce Dr. Steven D. Dillingham as RITAs new
Associate Administrator and Director for the Bureau of Transportation
Statistics. Dr. Dillingham has an extensive background in research and
statistics. His previous government service includes serving as the
Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and directing research and
planning for the Department of Justice's U.S. Trustee Program. He also
served as Chief Administrator of the American Prosecutors Research
Institute. Recently, he has been Chief Counsel for the Vice Chairman of
the Merit Systems Protection Board. He holds graduate degrees in
government (PhD, MPA), law (JD, LLM) and business (MBA). Dr. Dillingham
is expected to start in early February. For those who would like to meet
him, Dr. Dillingham will be attending the all-hands event on Tuesday
when Secretary Mary Peters cuts the ribbon bringing the ITS JPO
officially to RITA.
Urban Data Committee Members and Friends
Attached is the agenda for the Urban Data Committee. Although the
agenda looks rather full keep in mind that there is a lot room built
into it for discussion. Please note that our committee will be meeting
Tuesday morning, which is different day from last year. I would also
like to draw your attention to our "Members Activities" round robin and
encourage you to bring any materials or handouts that you would like to
share with the group on activities that may be of relevance to the
group. Over the years I have gotten good feedback on this portion of
the meeting and of course, it's success depends on your participation.
I did not want to bury with a long list of activities the committee is
involved with but instead would encourage you to go to the TRB
Interactive Meeting Planner (http://trb.org/meeting/) and enter the key
name ABJ30 (that is the committee number) and take a look at what comes
up. It will be a list of activities that the committee has either
organized or is a partner in sponsoring. I know that there are a lot of
time conflicts but I please make an effort to attend at least one other
committee event besides our annual meeting.
I'll look forward to seeing in a few weeks.
