Emily-et al. I put the dial in information on the document as a footer
and apparently in some versions of word (including mine) it only shows up
when you print it, do a print preview or view just the headers and
footers. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

There has been substantial interest in and discussion about the next NPTS on several listserves. Many of you want to know more about being an Add-On jurisdiction in the next survey, including costs, timing, and any additional flexibility in the Add-on program. We are seeking input on both the potential costs and other elements of the next survey.
Survey Costs
FHWA has let a "Request for Information" (RFI) on the potential costs of the next NPTS. Although content and approach for the next NPTS have not been finalized, more information is needed on potential survey costs, especially for states and MPOs who are seriously considering the Add-on program. The approach taken in the Request for Information is to use the content and methods of the 2001 NHTS as a strawman survey, and to obtain separate costs for the GPS subsample, the nonresponse followup survey, and collecting and geocoding trip origins and destinations.

Major improvements have been made to the Regional Transportation Asset
Management System (RTAMS), www.rtams.org, and the website is now
available to the general public. As part of public access, you now must
use your EMAIL ADDRESS and password to login to the site. The old
usernames are no longer valid, but your password remains unchanged.
Improvements to the RTAMS website include:
PUBLIC ACCESS RTAMS is now compatible with Netscape and other
browsers. Now that RTAMS is open to all users, please help spread the
word on this resource by telling others about the website.
NEW INTERACTIVE MAP The interactive map has been completely
redesigned. It now appears in a separate window with navigation tools
on the top and information controls on the right. Turn map data layers
off and on under the Layers tab. Zoom to a transportation asset or
jurisdiction under the Find tab. The new map lets you use RTAMS in a
two-window mode, switching between reports in the main window and the
interactive map.
USABILITY ENHANCEMENTS The RTA Capital Program reports have been
simplified to make them easier to understand. The content area overview
pages under each menu heading have been improved to provide a quick
summary of what is available in each area. Convenience links at the
bottom of each page allow you to change your password, view the sitemap,
report a problem, or suggest future improvements.

Our Mid summer meeting is Monday, July 11 in Boston coupled with the
Commodity Flow Survey Conference and the TRB 2005 Summer Conference. I
haven't counted all the committees that will be midyearing it but is a

Here is a more formal solicitation from Ron McCready for NCHRP planning
proposals.
Attached, is a solicitation letter that was distributed to the members
of the Standing Committee on Planning last week in Overland Park, KS.
It is a call for proposed research for NCHRP 8-36. We would be happy to
get suggested research tasks from your committees. The format is
discussed in the attached as are the deadlines. The Panel will meet in
early August to program the $600,000 for this coming year. SCOP will
approve that program at the AASHTO Annual Meeting in September and then
we will do a quick selection from amongst our three task order contract
teams. I expect to be able to get contract signed and work begun by
late this year or early next. Thanks and let me know if you have any

Household Travel Survey Data--Getting by without a Travel Survey).
