This is just to report back to the Urban Data committee on a meeting
that several of us attended on May 14 at NATMEC in Orlando. Anita
Vandervalk, chair of the Statewide Data committee has been coordinating
these meetings. For those new to this, the notion of making a better
connection between operations and the data community is an emerging
issue with TRB as well as many others. As you will see two of our
committee members, Shawn Turner and Rich Margiotta are also
participating in these activities. Attached are the notes from the
meeting as well as some attachments that are referenced in the notes.

Thought you might be interested in the Applications of Advanced
Technology in Transportation 2002 Conference (AATT2002) that will be
held this summer (August 5-7) in Cambridge, MA. Please share this with
others who may be interested as well. Sponsorship and table-top exhibit
opportunities are available. Conference info is posted at

We had an enjoyable time in Orlando at our Midyear meeting and the
NATMEC conference. Attached are the notes from our meeting which were
graciously put together by Gene Bandy (Thanks Gene).
Also attached is the proposal that Marcus Wiggan has been shopping
around relative to a Workshop in conjunction with AET.
For Marcus: Regarding the workshop I talked with Paul Bingham (Freight
Data Committee) whom you talked to about this. We both agreed that you
would be the most appropriate person given your involvement and interest
in the area to "carry the water" for the TRB committees (I don't know
what if any discussion happened at the freight data committee meeting
since Paul and I talked before their meeting but in our Urban Data
meeting this was the sentiment). I also talked with Tom Palmerlee of
TRB about TRB sponsorship and there is a formal process within the
academy that you should follow-up with him on. Sponsorship does not
mean money from what I understand. I also gave Bill Bannister the BTS
person heading up the data gaps effort a copy of the proposal
(william.bannister(a)bts.dot.gov 202-366-9934).

This workshop is being planned for 11 Sept 2002 in Cambridge UK, but
has yet to have a nomination from Urban data committee.. while this
is an issue Ive been discussing initially with Ed and TRB for 4
months now, it should now be on the radar screen of all committee
members

I have taken the liberty of setting up a list serve for our TRB Urban
Data committee (A1D08). Actually a friend of mine, Chris Parrinello set
it up and has it running along side our CTPP list serve. The software we
are using is shareware (major-dormo) and is not real glitzy but it
works.
To post to the list, which is only committee members, Tom Palmerlee and
his assistant Fred, send your email to 'a1d08-news(a)chrispy.net'.
If you want off the list or need to change your email address just let
me know.
