Call for participation – 2013 TRB annual meeting workshop
Big Data Informatics: Innovations in Mining Structured and Unstructured Information for Mobility Decision-Making
Sponsoring Committee: ABJ30 Urban Transportation Data and Information Systems
Co-Sponsoring Committee(s): ABJ60 Geographic Information Science and Applications
                    ABJ95 Visualization in Transportation

Organized by: Computational Transportation and Society joint subcommittee ABJ30(2)

Call Description: The convergence of pervasive sensing with location-aware and social media technologies, along with infrastructure-based sensors, will lead to massive amounts of innovative “Big Data” in transportation. These data can be structured or unstructured, ranging from GPS trajectories to text, video, still images and so on. The workshop will focus on data management, information extraction, data mining, mobility mining, analysis of User-Generated Content, multi-sensor fusion and mobility information services that can be built using such data. The committee is also interested in data quality issues relating to User-Generated Content and computational and policy research related to privacy and information security.
The Computational Transportation and Society joint subcommittee, ABJ30(2), is especially interested in presentations and demonstrations that fit into one of the three areas: i) pedagogic reviews of the state-of-the art/practice in big data informatics for mobility decision-making; ii) examples of proposed or ongoing projects, or; iii) visionary statements of challenges or opportunities.
We welcome participation across a broad spectrum of scientists and practitioners interested in big data and mobility decisions, including (but not limited to) academia, public sector, private sector, and local transportation and planning agencies and organizations, and software developers
Subject Area(s): Data and Information Technology; Planning and Forecasting; Society
